Maintaining Integrity

Updated: Aug 22, 2023

Get a Cup of Coffee or your Favorite Drink. Can I have a few minutes of your time?? You won’t be disappointed when you finish reading this!!!

My number one favorite subject to talk about or hear about is Faith. My second favorite subject is Integrity. My third favorite subject would be Legacy.

As I was reading this morning, I came across some quotes from Warren Buffet. If you don’t know who he is you definitely need to Google him as well as watch the movie about his life. He had some ups and some downs. One important thing to this day is he has maintained his Integrity.

Integrity is paramount in our lives. What is it? It is the ability to stay honest no matter what happens in your life. When you are hard pressed in life you stay honest. No lies and no shortcuts.

Let’s Go Bible first before I quote Warren.

Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight. Proverbs 12:22

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs 6:16-19

The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them. Proverbs 11:3

For we aim at what is honorable not only in the Lord's sight but also in the sight of man. 2 Corinthians 8:21

These four scriptures should be enough to convince us how important Integrity is in our Lives. If not let’s go Warren Buffet from a business perspective. “These statements from Buffett are all about making sure that you stay true to yourself, your values, even when faced with challenging and stressful situations. Business is full of tough decisions, so it's really important to walk the talk of integrity in the heat of the moment. He understands the value of integrity.” "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it”

Warren Buffet continues in his elaboration on Integrity.

Why integrity is so important in your hiring decisions.

First of all, we're not negating the other two traits as deemed of lesser importance. You absolutely need intelligence in a knowledge economy. And energy is the fuel that propels passion and motivation.

But a lack of integrity? Like Buffett asserts, it's a clear non-negotiable. When you hire someone with integrity, it's the central pillar that holds all three together or the structure collapses.

Integrity is what makes it hard to question a person's decisions. His or her actions are open for everyone to see and you can rest assured that he or she will use good judgment.

In tight, collaborative spaces, colleagues of such hires will quickly see them as dependable and accountable for their actions, which is a laser path to developing team trust.

Hiring people with integrity also addresses the leadership void. A person who walks-the-walk of integrity eventually becomes a role model who commands respect and exercises great influence. These are the type of leaders people desire and whom you want to promote to management roles. Need more?
